After a “fierce” auction, Macmillan Children’s Books’ Rachel Kellehar and Rachel Petty secured world rights (all languages) from Hellie Ogden at Janklow & Nesbit for Out of the Blue by Sophie Cameron, and a second title.
The title will be published in the UK in spring 2018.
Petty said: “Out of the Blue is a book about grief and about finding your place in the world. It’s hopeful, heartfelt and completely unique, and we believe Sophie has the potential to go on to be a leading light in children’s and YA literature.”
Cameron, who received mentoring through The WoMentoring Project, was among the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ Undiscovered Voices 2016. She was a runner-up in the Moniack Mhor Emerging Writer Award 2016, and was shortlisted for both the Caledonia Novel Award and the Bath Children’s Novel Award with her manuscript.
