Simon & Schuster UK has bought UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to two novels by début author Sarah Carroll from Claire Wilson at Rogers, Coleridge & White.
The deal, struck in a multi-publisher auction, is for Middle Grade novel Girl in Between, about a girl and her mother who live in an abandoned mill in Dublin, and a second title. S&S will publish Girl in Between simultaneously with Penguin US, which has North American rights, in spring 2017. The second novel will follow in 2018.
S&S UK commissioning editor Rachel Mann said: “I read Girl in Between in one sitting and it left me reeling. Sarah is an incredibly talented writer who has painted the most gripping, poignant picture of homelessness that I have ever read. We’re so thrilled to bring her to S&S UK, with a story that has all the makings of a modern classic.”
