Storytellers Inc has become the third independent bookshop to win the Vintage Independent Bookshop of the Year Award.
Mother and daughter owners Carolyn and Katie Clapham were presented with the £1,000 prize following the Vintage Independent sales conference at The Tea House Theatre in London’s Vauxhall last night (6th November).
Storytellers Inc won the prize after demonstrating "the most creativity and passion in promoting and selling Vintage books".
The second prize of £500 was awarded to Jarrolds of Norwich for events including a Vintage Funday and creative themed displays.
The third prize of £250 was awarded to Slightly Foxed in London, which held a Vintage Children’s Classics tea party, a themed competition and an attention-grabbing newsletter, asking customers which characters from the classics they would want to have tea with and why.
The award, now in its third year, was open to any indie of any size and the competition ran from 1st June to 31st August.
Judges included Vintage deputy publishing director Rachel Cugnoni, Vintage brand director Claire Wilshaw and Vintage key account manager for independent bookshops Kate Gunning.
Gunning said: “I really love judging this competition. It’s been such a joy to see the enthusiasm with which independent bookshops the length and breadth of the country have showcased Vintage books and authors. Yet again, my fellow judges and I were hugely impressed by the number of entries and the overall standard. Congratulations to Storytellers, Inc., to Jarrolds and to Slightly Foxed, and warmest thanks to all who entered.”
Carolyn Clapham from Storytellers, Inc added: “As a children’s specialist, we love the Vintage World of Stories children’s classics with their fabulous cover art so we were very excited about the competition. We really enjoyed our Vintage events and we are absolutely thrilled to have won the Vintage Independent Bookshop of the Year.”
