Templar Publishing is set to release a collection of sketches by Michael Foreman about his travels between the 1970s and 1990s.
Travels With My Sketchbook, scheduled for publication in April 2017, will contain drawings and anecdotes taken from Foreman’s original sketchbooks, showing his journeys in the US, Mexico, Venice, China, Iceland, New Zealand and India.
Templar, part of Bonnier Publishing, acquired the world rights directly from the author.
Publishing director Lisa Edwards said: “It is a real honour and privilege to publish the work of an author-illustrator I’ve admired for years. Michael Foreman is one of the acknowledged ‘greats’ of children’s literature and his work has delighted people of all ages for decades. His personal travel sketchbook will be something that every Foreman fan will want to own.”
Foreman was born in 1938 and has been illustrating books for more than 50 years. He has won the Kate Greenaway medal twice (in 1982 and 1989) and his books, excluding titles he co-authored with writers, have reached sales of more than £700,000 through Nielsen BookScan.
Last year, Seven Stories opened an exhibition dedicated to his illustrations.
