Pan Macmillan non-fiction is expanding its business and pop-science list with two "major" acquisitions.
Non-fiction publisher Robin Harvie pre-empted two major titles for 2017, acquiring UK and Commonwealth rights to both.
Awake: The Surprising Myths About Self-Awareness and How to Have More of it in an Increasingly Self-Deluded World by Tasha Eurich was acquired from Grainne Fox at Fletcher & Co. it publishes in May 2017, £18.99.
Blue Ocean Shift, by W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne, is the follow up to the 3.5m copy bestseller Blue Ocean Strategy, was acquired from Hachette Books US. It publishes in September 2017, £20.
Harvie said: “These are significant acquisitions for our UK and international markets as we look to establish a substantial presence in this growing area of the business, and we are thrilled to be working with these brilliant authors whose careers we hope to nurture over many years to come.”
Awake by organisational psychologist and bestselling author Eurich will be a "fascinating and enlightening" exploration of self-awareness, the "meta-skill" of the 21st century. Off the back of strong scientific evidence showing self-aware people are generally happier and more satisfied with their relationships, Awake will show readers "not just how to unlock their own self-awareness, but how to navigate an increasingly un-aware world".
Blue Ocean Shift, a follow up to global bestseller Blue Ocean Strategy, will by contrast show managers, through case studies, illustrations and stories, how they can move their business from Red Ocean (crowded with competition) to Blue Ocean (creating their own competition-free area). The "step-by-step guide" will show readers how they can transform themselves, their division or company through strategy, mind-set, culture and leadership.
Both new titles are earmarked for 2017.
