Vintage has released a special 3D paperback edition of Haruki Murakami’s first two novels Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball, 1973.
The special paperback edition, which features sprayed edges, a 3D cover and 3D glasses, will be available exclusively at Waterstones, priced £8.99.
Suzanne Dean, creative director at Vintage, explained the cover works as a stereoscopic 3D image by simply dictating the position of red and blue within the illustration, which makes the image recede or pop towards the viewer. "I always liked these 3D covers, because of the physical interaction it allows the book buyer," she said. London-based design studio La Boca was commissioned to illustrate.
Chris White, fiction buyer at Waterstones, commented: "I'm delighted that we have been able to work with Vintage to create a stunning and innovative exclusive edition; cutting edge design for a cutting edge writer which will delight his many fans and excite new readers."
