Bloomsbury Children’s is set to publish a new novel from Elizabeth Wein, telling the story of Julie Beaufort-Stuart, the main character from her novel Code Name Verity, before the Second World War.
The Pearl Thief, due for release in May 2017, is set in Scotland one year before the war starts and is a mystery story that is also about love and overcoming prejudice, according to Bloomsbury.
Editorial director Ellen Holgate, who acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Ginger Clark at Curtis Brown, said: “I’m thrilled to have acquired this brilliant novel from one of the most stunning writers in YA fiction. Devotees of Code Name Verity will be excited to be reunited with Julie and hear her story from before the war, whilst swathes of new readers get to fall in love with her infectious personality for the first time.”
