Joe Wicks has claimed three spots on a ranking of Amazon’s top 10 bestselling print books, in a list dominated by non-fiction and lifestyle titles. Meanwhile, self-published author Sarah Denzil has emerged as its bestselling e-book author.
As part of a deep dive into its 2017 summer trends, Amazon has released the 10 bestselling print and e-books for the first six months of 2017.
Three books in Wicks' Lean in 15 series published by Bluebird have made the top 10 print books list on Amazon, with The Shift Plan: 15 Minute Meals and Workouts to Keep You Lean and Healthy coming in second place, The Sustain Plan: 15 Minute Meals and Workouts to Get You Lean for Life in fourth place and The Shape Plan: 15 Minute Meals With Workouts to Build a Strong, Lean Body in sixth place.
However, topping the print list, which is dominated by non-fiction and lifestyle titles, is Bloomsbury's Tom Kerridge's Dopamine Diet: My Low-carb, stay-happy Way to Lose Weight by Tom Kerridge. Another weight-loss diet book, The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet: Lose weight fast and Reprogramme Your Body by Michael Mosley (Short Books) is on the list in seventh place. Completing the cookbook entries is national sweetheart Mary Berry’s Mary Berry Everyday (BBC Books), in third place.
The bestselling hygge title The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well by Meik Wiking (Penguin Life), is the ninth bestselling print title through Amazon in the year to date.
The only children’s title on the list is narrative non-fiction Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo (Particular Books), a collection of stories about real-life figures and their “extraordinary” lives, including Ada Lovelace to Malala, Amelia Earhart and Michelle Obama. Another narrative non-fiction title on the list, this time for adults, is Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari (Vintage). Ruby Wax’s A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled (Penguin Life) rounds out the top 10.
Meanwhile, Amazon's top-selling e-book list is dominated by psychological thrillers, with eight of the top 10 falling into that genre. The most successful of them all is Silent Child by Sarah A. Denzil, the only self-published title on the list.
Bookouture, which was recently acquired by Hachette, has three titles in the e-book ranking: The Gift by Louise Jensen in third place, The Missing Ones by Patricia Gibney in fifth place and The Silent Wife by Kerry Fisher in eighth place.
In second position is The Keeper of Lost Things, “the feel-good novel of the year” by Ruth Hogan (Two Roads), and Sister Sister by Sue Fortin (HarperImpulse) is in fifth place. Meanwhile Bonnier Zaffre title Lies by TM Logan comes in sixth place.
Buoyed by a successful BBC TV adaptation, Louise Doughty’s Apple Tree Yard (Faber), has made it into seventh place, while Richard and Judy book club title A Boy Made of Blocks by Keith Stuart (Sphere) is in ninth place. Rounding out the top ten is The Breakdown by BA Paris (HQ).
Last week, The Bookseller revealed Nielsen’s 2017 author chart for the first half of the year. Wicks, who was the bestselling author of the half-year 2016, had been knocked off the overall top spot by David Walliams, but was still top for non-fiction. Kerridge came 16th on the list, while Berry was in sixth place. Harari, author of Sapiens (Vintage), was in 15th place.
Amazon has released its Summer Trends report as its UK staff prepare to move into the company's new 15-storey headquarters in London's Shoreditch. The company is holding an official launch party for the new offices tomorrow (26th July).
