The Wylie Agency is expanding into the global Spanish language market, with former Penguin Random House Mexico editorial director Cristóbal Pera [pictured] heading up the new venture.
Pera will oversee The Wylie Agency España and will be in charge of expanding the reach of the agency into the Spanish language market and representing talent in Spain, Latin America and the US. He brings with him more than 15 years of editorial experience, beginning his career at Galaxia Gutenberg and later moving to Random House Mondadori, where he was literary director of the Debate imprint. As editorial director of Penguin Random House Mexico, he worked closely with authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Enrique Krauze, Anabel Hernández and Lydia Cacho.
Wylie Agency founder Andrew Wylie said: “Cristóbal’s deep knowledge of the Spanish language publishing market, both in Spain and Latin America, and his editorial skills and strong and close connection with authors will be a formidable asset for The Wylie Agency and will help to shape a new course for us within the publishing world.”
Pera added: “I'm thrilled to join The Wylie Agency, drawing on my experience as an editor to help strengthen professional relationships with classic authors and to discover new voices in Latin America and Spain. I have always admired and respected Andrew Wylie, and it is an honour to work with him on this exciting new challenge.”
The Wylie Agency already has offices in both New York and London.
