Post Wave Children’s Books has appointed Krestyna Lypen to the role of editorial director, based in New York, as the publisher branches out into the US market.
Lypen will report to publisher Emma Blackburn, and her role will involve curating a list of preschool, picture book and illustrated non-fiction books for children.
Lypen joins from Hachette Book Group where she was senior editor for the Algonquin Young Readers imprint, working with authors and illustrators such as Nicole Melleby, Khoa Le, Heidi McKinnon and April Genevieve Tucholke.
Prior to Algonquin, Lypen was associate editor at Workman Publishing, and has also held roles at Penguin Group US and St Martin’s Press.
Post Wave Publishing UK was established in 2023 as a UK subsidiary of the publishing company Post Wave Publishing China. Led by m.d. Emma Hopkin, the publisher announced its creative team earlier this year, and that Bounce Sales & Marketing will sell and distribute its books in the UK, as the publisher launches its list in August.
Lypen said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Post Wave in bringing truly special illustrated books into the world for some of our most important readers, our youngest. Utilising our collective global experience, we plan to connect with young readers everywhere via books that help them learn and grow and spark their own creativity.”
Blackburn commented: "Krestyna’s skills, experience and market knowledge will bring a strategic insight to our publishing as she grows her list of authors and illustrators.”
Alongside this appointment, Post Wave has also announced a sales and distribution partnership with Chronicle Books in North America.
Hopkin said: “Chronicle is our dream partner. We are very pleased to be working with its highly talented and impressive team.”
Tyrrell Mahoney, president of Chronicle Books, added: “Chronicle’s longstanding success and far-reaching customer base for children’s books, toys and gifts shall be greatly enhanced by the inclusion of Post Wave’s publishing programme.”
