Sum up your book in three words.
God of Vengeance. Too easy? Ok. How about: Vikings on mead.
Where did the initial idea come from?
A trip to Norway to row the Viking ship Dragon Harald Fairhair.
How did the title get chosen?
I wanted a title that hinted at both the action and the mythological aspects of the story. God of Vengeance has a good sense of drama about it.
What's your writing routine?
I’ve never been any good at routines. I wrote this book standing up. It took seven months.
Which book do you wish you'd written?
I wish I had written I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. It’s brilliant and held me captive. I will write a thriller-type book one day.
What's your favourite word in the English language?
Fjord. I love saying it. I love its associations and the spiritual connection I have with it.
Who's your favourite fictional character?
Roland of Gilead from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series.
What was your favourite book as a child?
The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore. It was the first book I read voluntarily and it opened the door for me.
What book are you recommending to everyone at the moment?
Kingmaker: Winter Pilgrims by Toby Clements
What do books and reading mean to you?
Imagination is everything.
