10 Questions: Lisa Jackson

Gothic, Hitchcockian, psychological.

 

The idea was inspired by my editor suggesting I write about a house with a dark history, I immediately thought of the Columbia Gorge Inn which is a beautiful old hotel set on the Columbia River in Oregon. This past summer I stayed there for the first time and was offered a private tour of the building including the roped off area above the first floor. I was able to walk out onto the veranda and look up and down the Columbia river, much the way the heroine in Close to Home does. In fact, the prologue of the book is set upon a similar veranda – in much more sinister conditions! 

 

The title was my editor in America’s idea. I think it sounds a bit cosy!

 

I write a synopsis that I expand into the story upon the synopsis approval. Daily, after I walk the dog and have coffee I sit down and write on a laptop and as we get closer to the due date, I spend more hours writing and eating candy (and drinking more coffee)!

Gone Girl – I am looking forward to seeing the film because I think it will be very difficult to capture the intricacies of the protagonists in the book. I was fascinated by these characters and their intense self-destruction. 

 

Books and reading provide leisure, fantasy, and intellectual stimulation. In books you are able to go where your mind takes you, no movie is showing it to you, no television screen guides you – it’s all within in your own mind, and that’s what I think makes reading so unique to each and every individual.
