Baileys Prize Book Club

Here at We Love This Book we're going to be reading all of the six books on the shortlist, chatting about them on social media and posting reviews and videos here. We also have two London book clubs who are reading along with us.

The Accidental Feminist Book Club:

"As with most great things, our book club was conceived after two people who loved each other very much consumed slightly too much wine. Following an animated discussion about some mindblowing books they’d recently read, two old friends came up with the revolutionary idea of getting a bunch of like-minded people together to – I don’t know – read the same books and talk about them down the pub? ("OMG YESSS, THAT IS SHUCH A GOOD IDEA!" *hic*). Friends, colleagues, friends-of-friends and friends-of-colleagues were invited and the Accidental Feminist Book Club was born. Over a year later, there are 36 members, all of whom are women (although not by design). Around 10 to 15 people come to each meeting, with the biggest turn out being for Caitlin Moran’s How to be a Woman, when about 30 of us crammed into the corner of a bar and argued about who was the most strident feminist. Our events are usually loud and boozy affairs held in pubs, bars and restaurants around London about once a month. We’re democratic, with books being put forward and selected by popular vote. The most popular so far was (perhaps surprisingly) The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan. The Red Tent and The Handmaid’s Tale also got warm receptions. We’re all hugely looking forward to reading the Bailey’s Prize shortlisted books and discussing them over the coming weeks."
