The longlist for this year's Green Carnation Prize has been announced, with A.M. Homes' Women's Prize-winning May We Be Forgiven in the running.
Also on the list are three novels longlisted for this year's Man Booker Prize: Richard House's The Kills, Charlotte Mendelson's Almost English and Tash Aw's Five Star Billionaire.
The Green Carnation Prize, which celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender literary writing, is now in its third year.
Completing the 12-strong longlist are Gob's Grief by Chris Adrian, about a bereaved twin's obsession with bringing the dead back to life; 1980s memoir Maggie & Me by Damian Barr; poetry collection Environmental Studies by Maureen Duffy; Fallen Land by Patrick Flanery, a novel about the failure of the American dream; Black Bread White Beer by Niven Govinden, about a struggling relationship; The Sea Inside by Philip Hoare, part memoir and part travelogue; Fanny & Stella by Neil McKenna, the story of a Victorian scandal; and Far from the Tree by Andrew Solomon, a study of parents dealing with exceptional children.
Uli Lenart of Gays the Word, chairing the judging panel, called the longlist "impressively strong".
The prize shortlist will be announced on 5 November, with the winner announcement coming on 16 November.
