Jens Bammel, chief executive of the Publishers Licensing Society, is to become the new secretary general of the International Publishers Association. He is due to take up the job in September, succeeding Benoit Muller. Bammel will take charge of the IPA's secretariat in Geneva and lead liaisons between its member associations.
He joined the PLS in London in 1998 and has also previously worked for the Periodical Publishers Association. His appointment reflects the growing importance of copyright and licensing issues in international publishing.
