A M Heath has revealed "significant" plans for growth at the literary agency, with a series of promotions and career moves.
Bill Hamilton will take on the newly created role of chairman from 1st September.
Hamilton oversaw the evolution of the agency into a significant presence in London publishing, representing prize-winning novelists, historians, journalists and estates, including that of George Orwell. Hamilton will oversee the next phase of A M Heath’s expansion.
Meanwhile, Victoria Hobbs has been promoted to managing director. She joined A M Heath in 1999, and has established a large list of clients including Women’s Prize for Fiction winners Maggie O’Farrell and Kamila Shamsie; Conn Iggulden and Tim Shipman.
Hamilton said: “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to see Victoria stepping up to managing director. She has been essential to the agency’s growth and success, bringing wonderful clients and inspiring us all with her passionate advocacy for them.”
Hobbs said: “We at A M Heath have benefited greatly from Bill’s very particular brand of leadership—generous, incisive and always collegial. We are delighted that with his move to chairman we and his clients can continue to benefit from his breadth of knowledge and sharp eye on all aspects of the business.”
Anna Webber is also moving to A M Heath from United Agents with her full list of clients on 1st September. Webber brings with her a wide range of writing from around the world, as well as her long-standing transatlantic relationships with Bill Clegg and others.
Hamilton said: “We are so pleased that Anna has chosen to join A M Heath. Her steadfast pursuit of high-quality writing has earned her universal respect throughout the publishing community. She represents a wealth of internationally recognised and prize-winning poets, novelists and writers of literary non-fiction, who will fit seamlessly alongside A M Heath’s authors. We are delighted to offer them and Anna a new home.”
Webber said: “Leaving UA after all this time was a wrench. I had 17 happy years there and am leaving many friends, brilliant colleagues, and memories behind—but I have always admired A M Heath from afar, and joining its wonderful team proved an irresistible opportunity. I am hugely looking forward to this next chapter.”
