Actor and musician Johnny Flynn will narrate the audiobook of Bobby Palmer’s debut novel Isaac and the Egg, which will be published by Headline Review this summer.
Described by Joanna Cannon as “truly one of the most beautiful stories you’ll ever read”, Isaac and the Egg tells the story of a young man who walks into the woods on the worst morning of his life and finds something there that will change everything.
Flynn, who recently appeared in films such as “Operation Mincemeat”, “Emma”, “The Dig” and “Beast”, as well as releasing “Lost in the Cedar Wood”, an album co-written with the author Robert Macfarlane last year, said: “I loved reading Isaac and the Egg. It’s a brilliant and totally unique story, full of humour, darkness, wit, hope and humanity. It is heart-breaking, funny and unexpected in equal measure. Bobby is a fantastic writer and I can’t wait for the world to receive his first book.”
Hannah Cawse, managing editor of audio at Headline, said Flynn’s performance of the book was “truly exquisite”. “He rises to the challenges of this book and gives a beautifully nuanced reading of one of the most hopeful, honest and wildly imaginative novels you will ever hear,” she said. “I defy anyone not to laugh and also shed a tear as they listen to this audiobook.”
Palmer said: “Johnny is one of the most captivating British actors around, and his music was the soundtrack to much of my writing this book, so to have him on board is an absolute dream come true. I can’t think of a better person to embody everything the story is about, and I’m so excited for people to hear him bring Isaac (and the Egg) to life.”
