Actor Jessie Buckley will narrate Colm Tóibín’s "masterful" novel Long Island for release on 23rd May.
Billed as Picador’s "biggest book of 2024", Long Island features the return of Tóibín’s character Eilis Lacey 20 years after the events in Brooklyn, Tóibín’s 2009 novel. Eilis is living with her husband Tony Fiorello and her children on Long Island when shocking news brings Eilis backs to Ireland.
Buckley said: "I am a huge fan of Colm Tóibín’s work and was delighted to have been asked to narrate the audiobook for Long Island. What I love so much about Colm’s writing is that he so brilliantly unpicks the performances that we all live in our lives in such a way that it is impossible not to connect deeply and intimately with all of the characters in Long Island. It was such a huge honour to keep a hold of that intimacy and of all the different threads and intricate character nuances in my reading of the audiobook."
Laura Marlow, senior audio editor at Pan Macmillan, said: "We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Jessie Buckley narrate the audiobook of Long Island. Jessie’s performance so brilliantly captures the individual nuances of all of the characters in the story and makes for an incredibly moving and compelling listen. We can’t wait for audio listeners to hear it".
Long Island will be published in hardback, e-book and audio on 23rd May.
