Adaptations of Monica Ali’s Brick Lane (Doubleday) and Sandro Veronesi’s The Hummingbird (W&N) are among those shortlisted for the BBC Audio Drama Awards.
Brick Lane was adapted by Tanika Gupta and produced by Anne Isger for BBC Audio Drama London while The Hummingbird was adapted and produced by John Retallack for The Story of Books.
Also shortlisted is an adaptation of Berlin Alexanderplatz by Alfred Döblin (Penguin Modern Classics), adapted by Simon Scardifield, produced by Marc Beeby and Emma Harding for BBC Audio Drama London, and “Camille” by Pam Gems, adapted by Satinder Chohan, produced by Amber Barnfather and Flare Path Productions.
“The Miser” by Moliere, adapted by Barunka O’Shaughnessy and produced by Emma Harding for BBC Cymru Wales, and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, adapted by Lin Coghla, and produced by Sally Avens for BBC Audio Drama London, complete the list.
Other categories include Best Original Single Drama, Best Original Series or Serial, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Performance, The Marc Beeby Award for Best Debut Performance, Best Scripted Comedy (Longform), Best Scripted Comedy (Sketch Show), Best Podcast Audio Drama, Best Use of Sound and Best European Drama. The winners will be announced on 19th March 2023 in a ceremony in the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House London.
