Artificial Intelligence in publishing will be a key theme at this year’s IPG Autumn Conference on 20th September.
The Independent Publishers Guild (IPG) has launched the programme and bookings for its 2023 conference, held at the Shaw Theatre in London.
The event will aim to provide an overview of the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. Publishing tech expert George Walkley will hold a hands-on workshop, while David & Charles’ Bel Youldon and Shimmr’s Searsha Sade will cover AI’s use in marketing.
Geopolitical issues will be another major topic, with a keynote from journalist, writer and foreign affairs expert Frank Gardner. In addition, Diana Broccardo of Swift Press will give her views on the impact global events have on publishers.
Faber’s Mary Cannam and Kogan Page’s Helen Kogan will also be addressing the conference. Elsewhere, the event will cover a range of topics, from sales and distribution to sustainability and diversity.
Oneworld’s Shadi Doostdar will cover working with authors, while Allison & Busby’s Lesley Crooks and Zebralution’s Becca Souster will discuss audio strategies. The event will feature up-close looks at sales in key international markets, including Europe with Ingram’s David Taylor and Australia with Ultimo Press founder James Kellow.
A stream dedicated to academic publishing will feature Edward Elgar’s Tim Williams, as well as Edinburgh University Press and north American library experts. Meanwhile, a session on improving representation in publishing will welcome agents Natalie Jerome and Emma Shercliff.
Amanda Ridout of Boldwood Books and the IPG’s Sustainability Action Group will talk about the latest environmental initiatives. A keynote on engaging and recruiting Generations Y and Z from consumer behaviour and strategy expert Will Higham will also be held before a networking and drinks reception. This will also feature an exhibitors zone with publishing suppliers and service providers, including gold sponsors Ingram and PLS.
