Alan Bissett’s Lads (Wren & Rook) and Welcome to Our Table by Laura Mucha and Ed Smith, illustrated by Harriet Lynas (Nosy Crow), are among the 12 books that have been shortlisted for the Information Book Award (IBA).
Run by the School Library Association, the awards are sponsored by Hachette Children’s Group (HCG) and supported by Peters. They are judged by a panel of educators and celebrate information books, with the aim of highlighting the wealth of resources available to school libraries. “It is exciting to see an expanding range of diverse themes and to have books which reinterpret the way we look at subjects such as nature and history," said Margaret Pemberton, chair of the judges.
Pupils also have the chance to vote for their favourite titles to crown a Children’s Choice Winner in each of the three age categories. Voting will be open until 15th October 2024, and the winners will be announced in November 2024, with schools able to vote online. Moreover, funding from the Authors Licensing and Copyright Society has enabled the organisers to give nearly 100 schools a free collection of the shortlisted titles through the IBA Book Club.
The shortlisted books are available at a discounted price from Peters.
