Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney are set to star in the film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid.
Sweeney will star as the titular housemaid, Millie, who is employed by Nina, played by Seyfried. Nina is part of the wealthy Winchester family where all is not how it seems. The adaptation will be directed by Paul Feig, whose directorial credits include "Bridesmaids" and "Simple Favour".
Bookouture digitially published The Housemaid in 2022 and Little, Brown followed with the print edition in 2023. Grand Central Publishing released the novel in the US. Bookouture rights director Richard King sold film rights in a four-way auction to Lionsgate with Hidden Pictures to produce.
Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said: “I’m thrilled to have The Housemaid join our upcoming slate. A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start. My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”
Publishing director Ellen Gleeson said: “Editing and publishing The Housemaid series has been a publishing career dream come true. Freida is an unbelievably talented author, a total pleasure to work with, and her twists and turns never fail to shock her legions of fans. It’s been a real thrill to witness Freida McFadden becoming a household name and global superstar.”
The Housemaid is the first in the trilogy, followed by The Housemaid’s Secret and The Housemaid is Watching.
