Amazon will accept Visa credit cards at all of its stores and sites as part of a global agreement.
Last year the online retailer threatened to stop the use of Visa credit cards in the UK due to the fees Visa charged to process payments. No other credit cards or Visa debit cards would have been included in the ban.
In January it announced the change would no longer take place while discussions with Visa continued. Now, the two companies say they have struck a deal.
Amazon said: "We’ve recently reached a global agreement with Visa that allows all customers to continue using their Visa credit cards in our stores. Amazon remains committed to offering customers a payment experience that is convenient and offers choice.”
Visa said it was "pleased to have reached a broad, global agreement with Amazon", adding: “This agreement includes the acceptance of Visa at all Amazon stores and sites today, as well as a joint commitment to collaboration on new product and technology initiatives to ensure innovative payment experiences for our customers in the future.”
It is also understood that customers in Australia and Singapore will no longer pay a surcharge fee to use a Visa credit card.
