Alex Michaelides' The Silent Patient (Orion) has reached the top of the Amazon Charts' Most-Sold: Fiction chart, defeating Andrzej Sapkowski's Netflix-boosted The Last Wish (Gollancz). Self-published L J Ross' Ryan's Christmas held firm in second place.
Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall (Fourth Estate) made its début in the chart in seventh place, no doubt boosted around the hype for 2020's most eagerly-awaited book, The Mirror and the Light. The first title in Mantel's Cromwell trilogy is one of the bestselling Booker winners in the Nielsen BookScan era, with the hardback and paperback selling just under a million copies combined.
The Harry Potter titles, as always, dominated the Most-Read: Fiction chart, albeit with some shuffling around within their ranks. Sapkowski's The Last Wish rose four places to seventh in Most-Read—suggesting that buyers who binged on "The Witcher" adaptation on Netflix over the Christmas got cracking on the e-book during their first commute back.
Pinch of Nom doubled up in the Most-Sold: Non-Fiction chart, with the original million-copy-bestseller rising to join its sequel Everyday Light (Bluebird) in the top two. Dr Rangan Chatterjee's Feel Better in 5 (Penguin) also zipped into the top three. Twochubbycubs The Cookbook (Yellow Kite), also based on a Slimming World-inspired food blog, jumped four places to sixth place.
Veganuary seems to be a strong influence for New Year, New You 2020, with three veggie cookbooks in last week's Most-Sold: Non-Fiction chart—Rukmini Iyer's The Green Roasting Tin (Vintage Digital) and Joe Wicks' Veggie Lean in 15 (Bluebird) joining Jamie Oliver's Veg (Penguin) in the ranking.
However, Bill Bryson's The Body (Transworld) once again held the Most-Read: Non-Fiction number one spot, racking up more listeners on Audible than readers on Kindle.
