Heather Morris and Pinch of Nom have topped the Amazon Charts for 2019 as women dominate all four categories, with the retailer revealing its top five bestsellers in Most-Read: Fiction, Most-Sold: Fiction, Most-Read: Non-Fiction and Most-Sold: Non-Fiction charts for the year to date.
Blockbuster bestseller Pinch of Nom (Bluebird), by food bloggers Kay Featherstone and Kate Allinson, swiped the Most-Sold: Non-Fiction pole, having sold over a million copies through BookScan since its release in March. Fellow influencer Mrs Hinch swept into fourth place in the chart, with her cleaning guide Hinch Yourself Happy (Michael Joseph). Pinch of Nom was also the most pre-ordered title of the year through Amazon.
Heather Morris' The Tattooist of Auschwitz (Zaffre), a bestseller across the world, swiped the year's Most-Sold: Fiction number one, with 2019's bestselling independently-published novel, Nicola May's The Cornershop in Cockleberry Bay, hitting third place.
Michelle Obama's Becoming (Viking), which became last year's Christmas number one through Nielsen BookScan, topped the Most-Read: Non-Fiction top five, beating the slightly less topical Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People (originally published 1936). The former First Lady's memoir was also the most-listened-to audiobook of the year.
It wouldn't be an Amazon chart without J K Rowling, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Pottermore/Bloomsbury) thundered into the Most-Read: Fiction number one, sixteen years after it was first published. Four Harry Potter books muscle into the Most-Read: Fiction top five, though Philip Pullman's The Secret Commonwealth (Penguin/David Fickling), which debuted in the Amazon Charts just 10 weeks ago, claimed second place.
“Amazon Charts’ Year in Books gives us the most comprehensive indication of which books people in the UK have been reading and loving in 2019 because it takes into account ebooks read on Kindle and audiobooks from Audible,” said Simon Johnson, Country Manager for Amazon UK Books. “We hope that our first-ever chart of the year inspires readers to try the titles written by the top writers if they haven’t already.”
