Amazon plans to open a third brick and mortar store in Portland, US.
Fortune magazine has reported the new store will be called Amazon Books and be based in Washington Square Mall on the outskirts of the city.
An Amazon spokesperson told Fortune: “We are excited to be bringing Amazon Books to Washington Square, and we are currently hiring store managers and associates. Stay tuned for additional details down the road.”
The store will be Amazon’s first after its brick and mortar debut in Seattle, in the university village, with its second in San Diego. The Seattle store in 5,500 sq ft and stocks 5000 titles all facing outwards.
There have been reports that Amazon could be planning as many as 400 physical stores in the US, however the shopping mall c.e.o who first made the remarks later retracted them.
However, Amazon c.e.o Jeff Bezos has said Amazon is “definitely” planning to open more stores at the company’s annual shareholder meeting, but did not reveal a number of how many.
