Amazon Prime Video has greenlit its first Italian Prime Original drama series inspired by true crime memoir Mafia Princess by Marisa Merico, published by HarperCollins in 2010.
The currently untitled series will be produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani’s Wildside for Amazon Studios. The crime drama set in Milan in the late 1980s tells the story of "a shy, insecure teenager who becomes the youngest member of the mafia, not for money, ambition or the desire of power, but to win the love of her father".
Shooting will begin later in 2019 before launching exclusively on Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories around the world.
International publishing rights for the Mafia Princess book are being handled by Martin Redfern, executive director and agent at Northbank Talent Management with Dutch, German, Italian, Polish, Serbian and Slovakian rights already sold. TV rights were acquired by Wildside from James Carroll, also an agent at Northbank Talent Management.
