Amazon has reported a “strong” third quarter, with sales up 13% to $143.1bn (£117.9bn), compared to $127.1bn (£104.7bn) in the same period in 2022.
North America segment sales increased 11% year on year to $87.9bn (£72.4bn) and international segment sales increased 16% year on year to $32.1bn (£26.4bn), while Amazon Web Services (AWS) segment sales increased 12% year on year to $23.1bn (£19bn).
The company reported operating income of $11.2bn (£9.2bn) compared to $2.5bn (£2.1bn) last year. North America’s operating income came in at $4.3bn (£3.5bn), compared with an operating loss of $0.4bn (£0.33bn) in third quarter 2022. International segment operating loss was $0.1bn (£82.4m), compared with an operating loss of $2.5bn (£2.1bn) in third quarter 2022. AWS segment operating income soared to $7bn (£5.8bn), from $5.4bn (£4.4bn) last year.
Andy Jassy, c.e.o., said: “We had a strong third quarter as our cost to serve and speed of delivery in our stores business took another step forward, our AWS growth continued to stabilize, our advertising revenue grew robustly, and overall operating income and free cashflow rose significantly.”
