Amberley Publishing has partnered with Yad Vashem Publications, centre for studies of Jewish history and the Holocaust, to bring titles about the Holocaust to the UK.
The partnership will begin with a series of three titles in May 2016, to coincide with Yom HaShoah, the week of international remembrance for the Holocaust.
Yad Vashem Publications is part of the International Institute for Holocaust Research at Yad Vashem in Israel, the Jewish people's living memorial to the Holocaust.
The remit of Yad Vashem is to gather, research and publish testimony of the Holocaust, its heroism and to impart its lessons, and also to engage in international projects that perpetuate the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and of World War II.
The titles, to be published in May, are a "true window into the experience of survivors of the Nazi purge of the Jews during World War II. They describe life before the Holocaust, the flight from persecution, internment in concentration camps, and the joy and anguish of liberation after the war."
The titles are Anna: A Teenager on the Run by Anna Podgajecki, Menachem and Fred: Thoughts and Memories of Two Brothers by Frederick Raymes and Menachem Mayer and A Pedigreed Jew: Between Here and There, Kovno and Israel by Safira Rapoport.
"The powerfully moving accounts are, at times, difficult to read,” the publisher said. “But they are vital documents that will preserve the memory of the horrors of Nazi Europe for future generations so they can never be forgotten. Each story is a tribute to the resilience of an individual and a memorial to millions of others who didn’t survive. Each book demonstrates the strength of the human spirit under the most appalling conditions. This is essential reading for students of modern history and anyone interested in the terrifying impact of Nazi policies and the human reality of genocide."
Amberley will continue publishing its usual titles which include national, international and local history titles in all genres of history and non-fiction.
