And Other Stories has secured a five-book deal with award-winning Australian author Gerald Murnane.
Murnane is the author of 11 works of fiction, most recently Border Districts, which won the Australian Prime Minister Literary Award and was also shortlisted for the 2018 Miles Franklin Award. And Other Stories will publish five of Murnane's books in coming years, after acquiring UK and European rights, beginning with Border Districts, which will come out on 31st January 2019 as a paperback original and e-book.
On 7th February, Murnane’s first novel Tamarisk Row, will also be published as a paperback original and e-book. Sheffield-based And Other Stories will then publish Stream System: Collected Short Fiction and his novel A Million Windows in 2020.
Murnane’s collection of essays Invisible Yet Enduring Lilacs will follow in 2021.
And Other Stories founder and publisher Stefan Tobler said: “I’m a latecomer to Gerald Murnane’s work and would have loved to have his writing’s company over the last couple of decades, but it feels good to know that over the coming decades his books will be available here in the UK, excellent company for many new readers.”
Murnane beat Peter Carey, Kim Scott, Richard Flanagan and Michelle de Kretser to win the Australian Prime Minister Literary Award 2018 with Border Districts. The judging panel said: “Rendered in crystalline prose and touched with an elegiac pathos, Border Districts is the crowning achievement of a singular literary career.”
