Digital publisher Andrews UK Limited (AUK) has acquired Matthew James Publishing (MJP) and its associated imprints, Tiny Tree Children’s Books and Rejoice Publications.
Founded in 1993 in Chelmsford, Essex, MJP later relocated to Greater Manchester. The family-owned publishing house has produced fiction and non-fiction titles, education programmes for schools and, more recently, has championed emerging children’s book talent through its Tiny Tree Children’s Books imprint.
MJP and its imprints will continue to operate independently from Greater Manchester, with managing director James Shaw and marketing and publicity manager Anthony Barlow remaining with the company.
AUK said it has purchased 100% of the shares of MJP. AUK will honour all existing author deals and said it "looks forward to growing Matthew James Publishing’s lists which are complementary to the existing AUK lists".
Paul Andrews, c.e.o. of Andrews UK Limited, said: “We are pleased to have been able to bring MJP and its various imprints into the growing AUK family. In 2022, another family publishing business Arthur H Stockwell Ltd – which itself is now celebrating its 125th anniversary – joined us and is now starting to flourish by being able to lean upon the wider AUK team. This year is shaping up to be very exciting as James and Anthony begin work as part of our expanding work family. They will be joining not only the book publishing team but also the new AUK audio creation and game development companies which are starting to expand as we look to a future of cross-platform media publishing.”
James Shaw, m.d. of Matthew James Publishing, said: “We’ve worked so hard to get where we are, and we’re so grateful that Paul and the team at Andrews UK saw the potential of what we’ve been trying to achieve for almost a decade.”
