The Booksellers Association (BA) has announced that artist, author and illustrator Angela Harding will design a limited edition tote for Books Are My Bag. The new design is inspired by the landscape of Shetland and its otters, and will be available in bookshops across the UK and Ireland from Bookshop Day on 12th October 2024.
Harding has illustrated Simon Armitage’s collection of poems, Blossomise (Faber), and a version of Isabella Tree’s Wilding (Macmillan Children’s Books). She has published two books with Sphere (A Year Unfolding and Wild Light) and her new book Still Waves & Wild Waters is out on 26th September 2024 (Sphere).
“I hope book buyers and sellers alike will enjoy this otter design I have done for Books Are My Bag, which I was honoured to have been asked to do,” Harding said. “I created the image when I was in Shetland last summer, which is a place of great inspiration for my artwork. I hope I have conveyed the powerful experience of standing by the sea and watching a Shetland otter playing in the waves.”
Previous limited-edition bags have been created by Poonam Mistry, Jackie Morris, Dapo Adeola and Tracey Emin.
