Felice McKeown, Atlantic’s marketing director, has been promoted to creative director and will lead both the art and marketing teams.
Drummond Moir, managing director, said: "‘Felice is one of contemporary publishing’s absolute stars. She creates unmissable, innovative, ambitious, award-winning campaigns and is a natural and proven leader... In her new role Felice will also lead our art team, so that the visual and verbal storytelling behind each publication are even more aligned from the beginning of each book’s life."
McKeown’s first act in her new role has been to hire designer Anna Morrison as Atlantic’s new head of designer. "The prospect of creating a team with the supremely talented [designer] Holly [Battle], and creatively collaborating with Felice and her colleagues, is truly exciting to me", said Morrison. "Together I believe we will strengthen Atlantic’s brilliant and diverse list, and make Atlantic a stronger, even more confident, and market-leading publisher."
McKeown added: "I am so delighted to be taking on this expanded role at Atlantic and to have the opportunity to work even more closely with our hugely talented art team. We’ve all long admired Anna Morrison’s award-winning, gorgeous cover design. I am completely inspired by her creative vision and have no doubt it will bring true distinction to Atlantic’s publishing and business... I’m proud to be leading these teams, and can’t wait to work with them to strengthen our publishing and create covers and campaigns that connect."
Moir also paid tribute to art director Richard Evans, who announced his decision to step down earlier this year to pursue a freelance career: "These are big shoes to fill and we had a very high calibre of applicants, but it was noticeable that every one of them mentioned how respected and admired Atlantic’s cover artwork is within the industry – testament, if any was needed, of Richard’s brilliant contribution. We thank him for everything and wish him all the best in his new life back home up north, where he’ll be continuing in the art world as a freelance."
The news comes to months after news of Atlantic’s new team structure alongside plans for its four imprints, as it aimed to transition from "diffuse" to "expert". In February a restructure was announced with the loss of four roles in response to financial pressures faced by the company.
