Audible has scooped an original audiobook from Love Factually (Bloomsbury Sigma) author Laura Mucha on attachment theory, following a group of people over the course of a year.
World English audio rights were acquired by commissioning editor Harriet Poland for We Need to Talk About Attachment from Imogen Pelham at Marjacq. It will be released exclusively in audio in September 2021.
The synopsis says of the audiobook’s subjects: “Some are looking for love, some are new parents and some are recently single or divorced–but all are incredibly candid and keen to understand themselves, and their attachment patterns, better. Laura will assess their attachment pattern using rigorous scientific methods, explore what that means for them in terms of friends, work, parenting and romantic relationships–and whether understanding attachment has any impact on their lives.”
Mucha studied psychology, philosophy and flying trapeze before becoming a lawyer for an international law firm. When she was hit by a car aged 29, she decided to change career and is now an award-winning poet, writer and speaker.
She said: “Every single human should know about attachment theory–it can transform the way you see yourself, your partners, parents, friends, children and colleagues and in doing so, help you make better decisions and break patterns of the past.
“I’m thrilled to be working with some of the world’s leading attachment academics and psychotherapists, as well as a small number of brilliant interviewees, to create an honest, accurate and hopefully enlightening account of one the most significant theories of human development. Attachment theory is a complete game-changer and it’s time we started talking about it.”
Poland added: “I’ve been obsessed with attachment theory, and Laura, since I listened to Love Factually and it opened a window into the souls of the love-struck and loved-out. As we’ve developed We Need to Talk About Attachment Theory, Laura has illuminated a little-discussed but fascinating aspect of psychology, and sparked endless conversations and revelations. This original audiobook will use deep research and open discussions with contributors to connect listeners with fundamental truths about who we are. It’s going to be a revelatory book that transforms how people understand their relationships.”
