The winners of the inaugural TikTok Book Awards have been revealed, with Bolu Babalola taking home the BookTok Book of the Year prize for Honey & Spice (Headline Review).
At an awards ceremony in London on 17th August, Babalola won out against fellow shortlistees Sarah Underwood for Lies We Sing to the Sea (Electric Monkey), Douglas Stuart for Young Mungo (Picador) and Jessica George for Maame (Hodder & Stoughton).
Holly Jackson was crowned BookTok Author of the Year, while Eden Victoria (@edenvictorria) was named Creator of The Year. Portobello Bookshop in Edinburgh won Indie Bookshop of the Year, while Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice was named Best BookTok Revival.
Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton (Fig Tree) was named Best Book to End a Reading Slump, and crowned Best Book I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time was Heartstopper: Volume One by Alice Oseman (Hodder Children’s Books).
On receiving her award, Babalola said: "This is actually the first award I’ve received for anything I’ve written. It means the world to me, especially because it’s from people who read, who have a passion for books, and actually for love as well. I feel so supported by the BookTok community, creators [...] they galvanise me, I love how much you thirst for Malakai - it makes the late nights worth it!"
Jackson said "BookTok has changed my life" adding "the support you’ve shown for The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series has been overwhelming, sometimes a little scary! Thank you so much for voting for me, wow I’ve got a trophy!”
