After joining the agency in 2017, Irene Baldoni has been promoted to director at Georgina Capel Associates.
Before joining Georgina Capel, Baldoni worked at Faber and Faber and with Jane Gregory at Gregory and Company. In her current role she represents prize-winning authors of literary fiction and non-fiction, as well as poetry.
Baldoni has also been a judge of the Bristol Short Story Prize and has collaborated with the charity Indie Novella and the Indie Novella Writing Course. She will also be working with the Bridport Prize on their new underrepresented writers’ residencies in the spring.
Baldoni said: “I am grateful to Georgina Capel and to my colleagues for the opportunities and the support they have given me over the years, and I am excited to continue my work at GCA. In particular, I am currently on the hunt for superb literary fiction – I am very keen to see works by women who seek to move past the tropes often associated with female writing at the moment, both in terms of style and themes.
“I am also specifically looking for works that engage deeply and not performatively with class and the material realities of living. I am always interested in speculative fiction and exquisitely written upmarket fiction, and I would kill, metaphorically, to find a sweeping, intergenerational feat of a novel.
“In non-fiction, I am drawn to authors who can conjure a new vision of the world through a specific story or convey their specialist knowledge with a fresh and dynamic perspective. I am keen to hear from a new generation of academics and to nurture the voices that will interpret our world in the next decades.”
