Emily Barrett and Liane-Louise Smith are joining the Blair Partnership as agents from Little, Brown and the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency respectively.
Barrett was most recently publisher of Sphere Non Fiction and Smith international rights director at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency.
Neil Blair, founding partner of The Blair Partnership and chairman of Pottermore, said: “Innovation and storytelling is at the heart of everything we do and so I feel proud to see the agency team growing from strength to strength.
Rory Scarfe, managing director of client management, said: “The Blair Partnership prides itself on representing the greatest storytellers and bringing their stories to the broadest possible audience, whether that be via a bestselling book, TV series, film, stage show, brand partnership, or beyond – stories that we believe have the power to change the world for the better.
“These two hires allow us to build on the fantastic existing team of agents who have driven the ambition and successes of the agency for the past few years. We intend to build on that for the future. In Emily Barrett and Liane-Louise Smith, we are delighted to welcome two giant publishing talents who will exponentially boost the breadth of our representation and the international presence of our clients respectively.’’
Barrett said: “My decision to move into agenting has been years in the making but proved difficult because of the collegiate bunch who work at Sphere, and all the support Charlie King and Cath Burke have given me while I’ve been at Little, Brown. I look forward to seeking out and working with authors more directly than I do now, across the spectrum of non-fiction, and to getting to know and working with all the fantastic publishers out there.”
Smith commented: “After four and a half wonderful years at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency, I’m delighted to be joining Rory and the whole of The Blair Partnership team at this exciting moment of growth. I can’t wait to bring TBP’s incredible storytellers to the world.”
