Guardian Faber has appointed Fred Baty to the role of commissioning editor.
Baty is taking over the responsibility of the Guardian Faber publishing, reporting to Laura Hassan, now editorial director at Faber.
Baty joins from his current role as commissioning editor for Portfolio Penguin. Prior to that he held positions at Random House Books and Vintage.
His focus for Guardian Faber will be on developing the joint imprint, acquiring quality non-fiction in current affairs to sport, science and technology, economics and popular culture.
Hassan said: “I’m thrilled Fred will be joining us. He has a strong editorial vision, a track record for navigating successful partnerships and fantastic book ideas. I can’t wait to see how he shapes the list.”
Batty added: “I have long admired the breadth and quality of Guardian Faber’s publishing, and am very much looking forward to working with them to uncover the next generation of unmissable new voices and ideas.”
Sara Montgomery, Head of Guardian Books & Bookshop said she was excited about Baty’s ideas for taking the imprint forward and shaping a “commercial and dynamic” list which draws on The Guardian's journalism.
