Amy Mae Baxter is joining Avon as commissioning editor at the end of July 2023. Baxter will be commissioning and editing new and existing Avon titles.
Baxter is the founder and editor-in-chief of Bad Form, a multi-award-winning magazine by and about writers of colour, and was formerly senior editor at Dialogue Books where she published authors including Sara Desai and Ashani Lewis.
During her time at Dialogue, Baxter worked with authors including Paterson Joseph, Okechukwu Nzelu, Liv Little and Ione Gamble. She was longlisted for the Brightlist Awards Inclusion Advocate and LBF Trailblazer Awards in 2023, named a Big Issue Changemaker of 2022, and a Bookseller Rising Star in 2021.
Publisher Helen Huthwaite said: “I couldn’t be more delighted to be welcoming Amy to the Avon team. It is no exaggeration to say that her reputation precedes her. She marries a love of commercial fiction with unstinting support for writers of colour, and she is bringing these essential attributes and so many more to her new role as commissioning editor.”
Baxter said: “I’m excited to be joining the wonderful team at Avon. It’s a great opportunity for me to contribute to the list, and I’m looking forward to building on Avon’s successes and publishing hooky, exciting commercial fiction.”
