BBC Books is publishing its first official book with the Springwatch team, Springwatch: The Almanac, featuring a foreword from Chris Packham.
Publishing this September to coincide with the new series of "Autumnwatch", the Almanac will be "an inspiring collection of stories, practical advice and outdoor wisdom for every season of the year" from author and TV producer Michael Bright and ghost-writer, editor and researcher Karen Farrington.
It will take the reader month by month through the coming year, combining "compelling" stories with practical guidance it hopes will inspire people to start exploring. Tips will range from how to identify animal tracks and bird nests to the best time to witness starling murmurations and mayflies hatching, to helpful monthly daylight and rainfall charts. Illustrations meanwhile will feature throughout with original artwork from David Wardle.
Albert DePetrillo, BBC Books publishing director, who acquired world rights from the BBC, said: "I’m absolutely thrilled to be publishing our first book with the Springwatch team. Their mission, to encourage us to become respectful observers of the natural world, is perfectly captured in this Almanac. I can’t wait for Springwatch fans to discover their favourite new book."
Springwatch: The 2019 Almanac will publish on 20th September in hardback priced £12.99.
