TV Bookclub panel show "Between the Covers" has been confirmed for a fifth series and is now encouraging publishers to submit titles.
Hosted by author and broadcaster Sara Cox on BBC2, the show involves a discussion about a new fiction title with four celebrity guests, as well as a themed "older" fiction title, and an exploration of the guests’ favourite reads.
The fourth series, airing on Wednesdays at 7.30pm from tonight (11th May), will include Monica Ali’s Love Marriage (Little, Brown) and Candice Carty-Williams latest book, People Person (Orion.) Guests for the season include Richard E Grant, Emeli Sandé, David Morrissey, Sir Trevor McDonald and Deborah Frances-White.
Submissions for the fifth series are now open and will close at end of day on Friday 27th May. Entries should be made at www.cactustvbookclub.com.
The books are chosen by the series’ executive producer Amanda Ross and her production team, lead by series producer Pollyanne Conway. As for previous series, Nina Pottell will act as consultant, and the submissions process and book trade relations will be handled by Julia Kingsford.
The themed backlist book club for Series Five will again be linked to the Booker Prize as it was for Series Three in autumn 2021. These titles will be chosen separately and publishers do not need to submit any books for consideration at the moment.
"We are incredibly excited and grateful that the BBC have committed to the future series of ’Between the Covers’ before the current series starts airing," Ross said. "It’s a brilliant opportunity for us to champion six brand-new books as well as shine a light on some gems from the Booker Prize backlists. We would love submissions as soon as possible so we can get reading!"
