Oneworld has appointed Bill Swainson as editor at large for non-fiction.
Swainson was Bloomsbury’s senior commissioning editor for 15 years, working with authors such as A C Grayling and Al Gore, before leaving in June 2015 after a restructure.
In his new role Swainson will work alongside existing editors Sam Carter, Alex Christofi and Shadi Doostdar, acquiring around four books a year across a wide range of subjects, including current affairs, environment, history, politics, narrative non-fiction, memoir and biography.
Oneworld publisher Juliet Mabey said: “Bill is widely known and respected in the industry, having worked with great authors such as A C Grayling, Al Gore, David Kynaston, Elizabeth Kolbert and Edward Lucas among many others. His breadth of knowledge and literary sensibilities will be a tremendous asset to our very strong non-fiction team as we expand and diversify.”
Before Bloomsbury, Swainson worked at Harvill, Allison & Busby and John Calder.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining such a lively independent publisher and look forward to adding to the range of titles that Oneworld are already publishing on its terrific list.”
Swainson will continue to acquire a select list of fiction in translation for MacLehose Press, and to work as a freelance editor and literary consultant.
He will be attending the London Book Fair and can be contacted on BSwainson@oneworld-publications.com.
