The Black British Book Festival will partner with the Hay Festival Global for the first time to showcase Black British writers.
The Black British Book Festival (BBBF) has announced the inaugural partnership with the global literary festival, to highlight the works of Black British writers and “mark a significant step towards amplifying diverse voices and perspectives within the literary world”, organisers said.
As part of this partnership, BBBF will present writer, rapper and founder of social enterprise RiseUp Ashleigh Nugent, in two interactive poetry sessions at the Hay Festival Hay-on-Wye, which runs from 23rd May to 2nd June.
Organisers said: “These events, curated by BBBF, invite attendees to immerse themselves in the inspiring Welsh countryside and explore nature through poetry. Nugent’s live performances promise to transport audiences to new realms of imagination, allowing nature to infuse depth into their writing.”
Selina Brown, founder and c.e.o. of the Black British Book Festival, said: “We are thrilled to collaborate with the Hay Festival to showcase the talent and creativity of Black British writers. This partnership not only provides a platform for underrepresented voices but also fosters meaningful connections between writers and audiences.”
Julie Finch, c.e.o. of Hay Festival Global, commented: “We are delighted to welcome the Black British Book Festival to our Hay Festival family. This partnership reflects our dedication to showcasing a wide range of voices and perspectives and creating an inclusive space for literary exchange.”
The programme can be viewed on the Hay website.
