Bloomsbury Children’s Books has rebranded Harry Potter Book Night with a new name, date and logo.
It will now be known as Harry Potter Book Day and will move from its original February date to October. In 2023 it will be celebrated on Thursday 12th October.
The organisation says the rebrand “ensures that this annual celebration becomes even more inclusive for fans of all ages, in schools, libraries and bookshops all over the world, continuing to introduce new generations of readers to Harry Potter".
The Harry Potter Book Day rebrand has been orchestrated in consultation with Twinkl ,an international online educational publishing house. As well as being more accessible for children and schools, it is hoped that the rebrand will also allow more flexibility for bookshops and fans to hold events at any time of day or night on 12th October.
Siân Robertson, Harry Potter brand manager, said: “Harry Potter Book Day is a wonderful opportunity for fans across the globe to celebrate J K Rowling’s stories together, continuing a hugely successful annual event that has already seen tens of thousands of events take place since it first launched in 2015.
“We want to make this magical celebration of books and reading bigger and better than ever, and this rebrand and pivot to autumn will ensure that whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, you can celebrate any time of the day, or night, that suits you. Huge thanks to all the bookshops, libraries, schools and fans who have supported the event in years past – we can’t wait to share the celebrations with you in October.”
The theme for Harry Potter Book Day 2023 will be "magical places", and resources can be found here for anyone who wants to get involved. Bloomsbury Children’s Books says they have “lots of exciting Harry Potter Book Day plans still to reveal”, including details of partnership activity with Twinkl and Warner Bros Studio Tour London.
