Sarah Lambert will join Bloomsbury Children’s Books as head of fiction in September 2024, reporting to Rebecca McNally, publishing director of Bloomsbury Children’s Books.
Lambert will be spearheading strategy for the fiction list across frontlist and backlist titles, whilst Ellen Holgate is moving to a creative leadership position as publisher, focusing on attracting and developing author talent, and building on her stable of authors.
McNally said: "I’m very pleased we have lured the wise and wonderful Sarah Lambert back to children’s publishing and can’t wait to see her ambition and strategic thinking add rocket fuel to our outstanding fiction team.
"We’re building on creative and commercial foundations. Sarah will partner with her leadership colleagues across all departments to deliver collaborative, purposeful and resilient publishing across our fiction frontlist and backlist."
Lambert began her publishing career in 2005 at Scholastic UK before moving to Orchard Books (Hachette). She joined Quercus Children’s Books as editorial director in 2012, returning to Hachette UK following their acquisition of Quercus and the inception of Hachette Children’s Group. She went on to lead Hodder Children’s Books, then the Older Fiction division, before becoming publishing director for fiction in 2019.
Lambert has worked with authors and illustrators including Piers Torday, Juno Dawson, Jamie Littler and Dermot O’Leary.
In 2022, Lambert took a step away from publishing to focus on her family business, and is now returning to the book world.
She said: "Bloomsbury Children’s Books’ exceptional list of authors and illustrators speaks for itself, and it will be a privilege to work with the team to write the next chapter of their adventure together."
