Bloomsbury is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by holding a Halloween-themed tea party in a converted church in London this week.
A Strange Gathering will take place at The Heritage Arts Centre (HAC) in Bow on 27th October. The event will celebrate Bloomsbury’s gothic and fantasy fiction.
Invited guests will be from the Bloomsbury Creator Circle, a book community of 1,900 content creators, spearheaded by Bloomsbury’s senior digital marketing manager, Kate Molyneux.
Molyneux said: “We have been overwhelmed and extremely excited by the interest in our Bloomsbury Creator Circle community since we launched in 2023. To say thanks, we wanted to host this exclusive Halloween event to showcase some of Bloomsbury’s key adult and YA titles and set up a fun way to get more engaging content for social media. We are grateful to all content-creators who have worked with us this year and also to all those who have posted to socials about Bloomsbury books.”
Guests will be treated to a unique edition of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell with personalised sprayed-edges designed by TikTok’s Booktoker of the Year and artist, Maisie Matilda.
After a Halloween-themed afternoon tea, Laura Purcell, author of The Silent Companions, will read from her new novel.
Other titles showcased at the event include The Great When by Alan Moore, the graphic novel Les Normaux by Janine Janssen), and spooky YA novels They Bloom at Night (Trang Thanh Tran) and Sleep Like Death (Kalynn Bayron).
