Bloomsbury will publish Will There Ever Be Another You, a new novel by Patricia Lockwood – the author of No One Is Talking About This (Bloomsbury Circus), which was shortlisted for the 2021 Booker Prize and the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
Alexis Kirschbaum, head of Bloomsbury Trade, bought UK & Commonwealth (excluding Canada) rights from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein, on behalf of Mollie Glick at CAA. Will There Ever Be Another You will be published on 23rd September 2025 in hardback, e-book and audio.
“Amid a global pandemic, one young woman is trying to keep the pieces together – of her family, stunned by a devastating loss, and of her mind, left mangled and misfiring from a mystifying disease,” the synopsis says. Has the illness stolen her old mind and given her a new one? Does it mean she’ll get to start over from scratch, a chance afforded to very few people? The very weave of herself seems to have loosened: time and memories pass straight through her body.”
It adds: “Will There Ever Be Another You is the phosphorescent story of one woman’s dissolution and her attempt to create a new way of thinking, as well as a profound investigation into what keeps us alive in times of unprecedented disorientation and loss, from one of our most original writers.”
Kirschbaum said: “Only Patricia Lockwood could take us through such pain and hilarity, existential wonder and humanity in a single book – sometimes a single paragraph – without missing a beat. Will There Ever Be Another You is an electrifying novel, and affirms her as one of the sharpest chroniclers of our present age: a singular writer, with a formidable imagination.” Lockwood added: “The closest I will ever come to my ultimate objective: to create a Louis Wain cat in book form.”
