Bluebird, an imprint of Pan Macmillan, will publish journalist Poorna Bell's "groundbreaking" book Stronger next year.
Publisher Carole Tonkinson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Rowan Lawton at The Soho Agency. Publication is set for spring 2021.
Stronger was inspired by Bell’s journey to get physically stronger after her husband died and covers the ways it empowered her, gave her confidence and boosted her mental resilience. Part memoir, part manifesto, this book is aiming to start a conversation about how women can tap into that reservoir of mental strength through fitness in a way that has nothing to do with weight loss. The book will draw on research as well as stories from inspirational women.
Bell said: “My goal with Stronger is to empower every woman to tap into this reservoir of confidence and mental strength through all types of physical activity, and to overcome the shame some of us have felt since a young age.”
Tonkinson added: “I have admired Poorna’s work for years and I am thrilled she is joining the Bluebird list. Poorna’s writing about powerlifting is inspiring and this book is going to help women connect to their strength at every level.”
