American musician Bob Dylan has revealed that he was in Frankfurt, Germany, during the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair, which was held between 15th to 20th October and unwittingly got caught up in crowds of people the publishing industry attending the fair at his hotel.
The singer-songwriter was on the German leg of his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour across Europe and the UK during the fair.
He posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he was at "the hotel in Frankfurt" while a "publishing convention" was taking place. He noted that "every room" in the hotel was booked and that there were parties being held "all night". He added: "I didn’t know there were so many book publishers in the world."
Dylan said that he was looking for the dark fiction and horror book publisher Crystal Lake Publishing, to "congratulate them on publishing The Great God Pan".
The book by Arthur Machen is one of Dylan’s "favorite books". It tells the story of a Welsh scientist who performs an experiment on one of his patients in his search for the supernatural. The story turns into a Victorian era revenge horror tale when some men in London start committing suicide after a woman arrives on the social scene.
The American singer said he thought Crystal Lake Publishing "might be interested in one of my stories" but was not able to locate the publisher amid the throng. "Unfortunately it was too crowded and I never did find them," he said.
Since posting about his failed attempt in Frankfurt, Crystal Lake replied to Dylan, writing on X: Hi @bobdylan,
Thanks for the mention and to everyone who tagged us. I can't send you a direct message, but your team can contact us at crystallakepub@gmail.com. Really looking forward to it.
