Book People is raising money by publishing a children’s joke book with Hachette Children’s Group and presenter and author Dermot O’Leary.
The retailer will ask children aged three to thirteen from across the UK to submit their favourite joke for the Giggle Ninja Joke Book, which will be published by HCG and sold exclusively by Book People. O’Leary, whose own children’s books are also published by HCG, will then choose his favourite and the winner will receive £250 of books for themselves, and £250 of books for their school.
At least 25% of proceeds will be donated to Save the Children.
Book People group buying and merchandising director Sarah Walden said: “Book People are thrilled to announce the launch of our Giggle Ninja competition with the support of Dermot O’Leary. We know humour is incredibly important in supporting a child’s development and is a fundamental human behaviour that will serve them well throughout their lives. It’s a sense we want to help them hone and we’re proud to be encouraging this with our Giggle Ninja Competition. We are looking forward to reading the jokes and having a good giggle.”
The competition opened on 10th January and closes on Thursday 18th April. Parents, guardians and teachers can submit jokes online and HCG will publish the book later in the year.
